Located in the Institute of Exact and Biological Sciences (Instituto de Ciências Exatas e Biológicas - ICEB), the program offers two concentrations in the bachelor modality: Basic Physics and Materials Sciences. It trains professionals with solid scientific backgrounds focused on research and for the development of new materials, structural and properties analysis, tests and applications of traditional and new materials. The professional that graduates in Basic Physics may study and interact in multidisciplinary interest themes, working with mathematicians, chemists, biologists, and engineers. Besides the bachelor’s habilitation in Physics, the program located in ICEB/UFOP started to offer, after 2012, the teaching habilitation, which seeks the training of professionals with a solid background in the understanding of physical phenomena and mathematical tools application, focused on the teaching of Physics and Sciences.
The labor market is huge and covers sectors from higher education, the public and private research centers, to industries. The professional may specialize in several areas, such as material physics, particle physics, nuclear physics, and sciences teaching. The teaching exercise has a wide field in public and private educational institutions. There is also the option of continuing studying, seeking the academic career of higher education and research.
