UFOP’s Mechanical Engineering Program began its activities in the first semester of 2009 with the purpose of training professionals able to execute conception activities, designs, construction, and maintenance of machines and mechanical systems, considering economic, management, security, and environmental aspects.
During the program, the student has the opportunity to complement the program’s theoretical basis with practice activities, such as experimenting in labs and models’ elaboration. Study travels for familiarizing with mechanical construction works and technical visits to companies of the mining-metallurgical sector also help in the learning process.
In the industrial sector, the Mechanical Engineer may work in mechanical maintenance correlated to different sectorial processes, such as: steel industry, cement, chemistry and petrochemical, mining, foods, aluminum, seaports, automotive, and building. Another occupation field this engineer may find themselves in are the scientific areas of research and technological development, including everything from biomedical engineering to the areas of industrial processing.
