UFOP Master's student in History, in an exchange program in Mexico, highlights inclusion policies in his academic trajectory

Maycon Alves, a master's student in History, was selected to receive a scholarship at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), in Mexico. Born in Virgem da Lapa, in the Jequitinhonha River Valley, Maycon, during his undergraduate degree in History in the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), was funded by student assistance programs, such as the permanence scholarship and student housing. He highlighted the importance of the permanence policy. He believes that models "such as socioeconomic housing are essential for many students and that they should always be strengthened."

After an exchange promoted by the  International Relations Office (DRI) and carried out in the Universidad Antonio Nariño (UAN), in Bogotá, in early 2023, Maycon decided to pursue a master's degree abroad, driven by his research experience and contact with another culture. He emphasizes that inclusion and permanence policies expand opportunities in the students’ academic lives. When looking back  on his trajectory, he said he felt "very happy  about these achievements and grateful for the University inclusion policies, such as student housing and the permanence scholarship", adding that, without them, his "undergraduate path would have been much more difficult".
