The sound path "Steps of Mariana: The City in Sound Paths" invites everyone to travel through the first city in Minas Gerais (Primaz de Minas). The material was developed by the students of the Sound Language course at the Journalism undergraduate studies at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) and by Professor Felipe Viero, with technical support from the staff member Thiago Caldeira.
The idea behind the project is that, with a cell phone and headphones, residents and tourists can go through important points of the city while listening to the corresponding audios.
The route starts at the São José Archdiocesan Seminary (Seminário Arquidiocesano São José) and goes through more than ten places until it reaches the last point: the Nossa Senhora do RosárioChurch. The "Steps of Mariana" also brings two extra visits that can be made on specific days and times: the Night Fair, which takes place on Thursdays in the Praça dos Ferroviários (Railwaymen's Square), and the Vegetable Street Market, which takes place on Saturday mornings at the Convention Center.
Professor Felipe says that, in addition to providing students with the exercise of sound production in a creative and playful way, the initiative also represents an opportunity for them to get to know better the city where they live and study. The project expands when it is available for free on podcast platforms. "The set of audios can also offer an opportunity for residents and tourists who, through our route, can be enchanted by the city, as we have been able to throughout our production," says the professor.
"Steps of Mariana: The City in Soundtracks" is available in Portuguese on Spotify.
