The Biological Sciences Graduate Program (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Biológicas - CBIOL) is offered by UFOP’s Biological Sciences Research Center (Núcleo de Pesquisas em Ciências Biológicas - NUPEB) and it has three concentration areas: Structural Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Metabolic and Physiological Biochemistry, and Protozoan Immunobiology.
The program includes both master and doctorate degrees. The first one started in 1998 with an annual selective process, and the other started in 2003 with two processes per year. In 2012 the program used to have 100 students and over 30 members composing the faculty. Most of the students are graduated from the Pharmacy, Nutrition, and Biological Sciences Programs. CBIOL maintains a solid articulation between the research and undergraduate activities that contributed to the program’s consolidation. Since its inception, NUPEB has been a training center for students interested in the scientific career who have followed it by enrolling in several other postgraduate programs in the country.
Its lines of research are: 1) Structural Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; 2) Metabolic and Physiological Biochemistry; and 3) Immunobiology of Protozoa.
